Soona was a mostly red-bone hound, born in Ontario, Canada in 1984 at a home for unplanned dogs. An Heiress, who volunteered at the home, adopted Soona and brought her to her parents' home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The Heiress then went on her Heiress way...six months in Montreal to learn French... six months in Banff to teach skiing...confident that Soona was happy at her parents' home. Soona was happy, but the parents were anxious to find Soona another home. When Soona was two years old, an adoption was arranged. Our family had just lost our dear dog Rufus and our neighbors, who were friends of the Heiress's parents, suggested Soona as a replacement. The transfer took place at a luncheon, where I was kindly informed of Soona's taste for antique furniture. Twelve happy years followed. Soona moved with us from Nova Scotia to Maryland to Toronto and back to Maryland, where we lost her at the age of 14.
Why name a record label for her? Soona could sing! Many of our friends witnessed her talents. She could do the easy songs, like “Show Me the Way to Go Home”, but was also accomplished at more difficult numbers - “Memories” from Cats was a favorite.
The staff of the home for unplanned dogs named Soona. The original name was Sooner - as in "sooner *#$^ than eat," however the British accent of the heiress rendered the appellation "Soona" - and there you have it!
